In 1579 in Kazan, soon after the capture of the Kazan Empire, this wonder-working icon appeared in a vision to a pious girl named the Matron. In the vision the Virgin Mother instructed her to inform the archbishop and the town governor to take an icon from a specific place in the ground. The vision repeated three times.
After that Matron heard a voice: "If you will not execute my command I shall be in another place, and you will be lost". The archbishop and the town governor dug in the specified place. The icon has been found wrapped in a piece of cloth; it is believed that it has been buried there before the conquest of Kazan.
The information about the wonder-working icon was passed on throughout the empire.
At present the icon resides in the Blagoveshchensk cathedral.
Many believers received healing and miracles. (Feast day: July 8 and October 22)
